Dealing with negative feelings
In the audio file available below, Tich Nhat Hanh explains how to tame negative emotions in Buddhism.
Many patients want to get rid of their tormenting feelings.
However, they do not want to give up the views and standpoints in which the feelings originate.
So therapist and patient need to work together so that the patient can see things as they are. The same is true when we use our mindfulness to transform our feelings.
Once we have faced the feeling, become one with it, calm it down and let it go, we can take a deep look at its causes, which are often based on misconceptions.
Once we understand the causes and nature of our feelings, they begin to transform.
